How a homemade kitchen ritual inspired our preservative-free honey and clay face mask.
The Story Behind the Super Mask
For years, our favorite face mask wasn't something we bought. It wasn't even something we prepared ahead of time, and kept for later usage.
It was something we assembled, straight out of the kitchen. If there was yogurt in the refrigerator, we'd use a scoop. If an avocado on the counter had become a little too ripe, we'd mash a spoonful into the bowl. Raw honey, herbs from the garden, apple cider vinegar mother, olive oil—whatever fresh ingredients happened to be available. Every mask was a little different, but every one exceptional.
As Be Here Farm + Nature grew, that ritual came with us. We began hosting live events, at which we would ceremoniously whisk together raw honey, botanical oils, infused glycerites, French Pink Clay, pine pollen, dried mushrooms, and more, right in front of our guests, before they would pair up with a friend/stranger and paint the masks onto their faces. It quickly became one of our most beloved experiences, and before long people began asking the obvious question:
"Can I take this home?"
The answer was always, "yes, but keep it in the fridge and use it tomorrow".
Why We Have Two Face Masks
Sending it home with guests turned out to be harder than you might expect.
We could have combined everything into one jar, but that would have meant introducing preservatives into a product whose entire appeal was its authenticity, freshness, cleanliness, and nutrient density. That was and is not a compromise we were willing to make.

One afternoon our founder Jared remembered his childhood hobby of baking Betty Crocker cakes with his mom. The genius, if you will allow it, of Betty Crocker cake mixes, is that the box contained all the dry ingredients, leaving you just the wet ingredients to add at home. “If we separate the Wet and the Dry, we don’t have to preserve it!” It was a beautiful lightbulb moment which led to the creation of our two masks, Wet Mask and Dry Mask, named after this very revelation.
What Is Wet Mask?
Our Wet Mask is built around raw honey, one of the oldest skincare ingredients in the world. Into that we blend our own fresh botanical oils and glycerites, crafted from Calendula, German Chamomile, Plantain, Comfrey, Yarrow, and Echinacea, all grown in our garden, picked by hand. A ribbon of crushed freshwater Pearl powder is the finishing touch.

The honey provides gentle enzymatic exfoliation while the oils and botanical extracts leave the skin feeling deeply nourished, soft, and comforted. Used on its own, Wet Mask is a wonderfully restorative treatment for skin that feels dry, tired, or in need of extra love.
What Is Dry Mask?
Dry Mask begins with French Pink Clay, which is combined with Aloe powder, wild mushrooms, pine pollen, and various herbs and flowers from our garden and the wild. It gently cleanses, helps lift away excess oil and daily impurities, and leaves the skin feeling fresh, refined, and incredibly smooth.

It is one of those products that somehow makes your skin feel cleaner without feeling stripped. Used by itself, it offers a gentle clay mask experience suitable for regular use.
Why Combine Wet Mask and Dry Mask?
When you combine the two, something special happens.
The clay gives the honey structure. The honey softens the clay. The mask becomes creamy, easy to spread, and remarkably luxurious. Instead of choosing between a nourishing honey mask and a detoxifying clay mask, you enjoy both experiences at once.
The clay gently draws impurities from the skin while the honey and botanical oils replenish moisture and comfort the complexion. Honey's naturally occurring enzymes provide light exfoliation while the clay and pearl refine the skin's surface, creating a balanced masking experience that leaves you feeling clean, soft, and totally rejuvenated. Many people comment that it feels better than a professional facial.
How to Use Super Mask
Scoop a small amount of Wet Mask into a bowl.
Using a clean spoon, add a small dash, or up to an equal amount of Dry Mask.
Mix until smooth and apply to your clean skin. If you wanted to spray Hydrating Essence on, and utilize one of our serums, or our Daily RItual Oil, many people enjoy an oil cleanse before applying their Super Mask.
Leave your Super Mask on for 10–20 minutes, or as long as you like, before removing with warm water and a soft cloth. In the shower or bath is often the most enjoyable and thorough way to remove the mask.
The skin will feel totally revived, moisturized, and fortified.
Why We Don't Use Preservatives
People often ask why we don't simply combine the masks into one jar if they are best used together. Our answer is two-fold. Firstly, in separating the masks, we unintentionally created two exceptional standalone products which also happen to combine amazingly well into one.
The other answer is freshness and cleanliness.
Separating the wet and dry ingredients allows us to avoid the preservatives that most ready-to-use masks require. Instead, you create a fresh mask moments before it touches your skin, preserving the experience that inspired these products in the first place. We do not personally consume synthetic preservatives, nor would we put them in our products.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use each mask on its own?
Absolutely. Each is amazing on its own. The sum of both is greater still.
How often should I use Super Mask?
A very personal decision. Some enjoy it monthly, others weekly, the Be Here family enjoys it every day in the bath.
Can I change the ratio?
Yes. Add more Wet Mask for a richer, more nourishing treatment, or a little more Dry Mask if you'd like a stronger clay experience. Individuals have their own preferences.
